Homework Assignment: Reflection for Emotional and Spiritual Growth
Over the next couple of weeks, take time to pay close attention to how you speak and think about yourself. Notice:
The goal of this reflection is to begin identifying what surfaces on an emotional level. By bringing these thoughts and feelings to light, we’ll take the first steps toward internal healing and deeper emotional and spiritual growth in the next session.
Take notes or journal your observations so you’re ready to share and reflect when we meet again.
Firstly, we need to know that shame does not come from God—He never intended for His daughters to live under its weight.
Some of us carry shame because of things we have done. We look back at decisions we made, things we said, or moments where we feel we failed, and we allow that to define us.
📖 Psalm 103:12 (NKJV)
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
💡 Truth: God does not hold onto your past—so why should you?
Some of us carry shame not because of something we did, but because of something someone else did to us. Maybe someone betrayed your trust. Maybe someone took advantage of you. Maybe you were treated as worthless, discarded, or told to stay silent.
📖 Joel 2:25 (NKJV)
“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.”
💡 Key Message: You may feel forgotten, but God has not forgotten you. He is a God of restoration.
Some of us carry shame because of words that were spoken over us. Maybe someone called you ‘useless,’ ‘dirty,’ ‘not good enough.’ Maybe they told you that you would never be loved, that you were a mistake. Words carry power.
📖 Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
💡 Truth: People’s words do not have more power than God’s words over you.
Homework Assignment: Practical Steps to Break Free
Just as the women in these stories found freedom, you too can begin the journey of breaking free from shame. Shame loses its power when we face it with truth. These steps will help you take practical action, just as the women in the Bible did.
✅ 1. Name the Shame
🔹 The woman caught in adultery was publicly shamed.
🔹 Hagar was cast out and rejected.
🔹 What lies has shame told you about yourself?
💬 Reflection: Take a moment to ask yourself:
✅ 2. Replace the Lie with God’s Truth
🔹 The woman caught in adultery was called “sinful”—but Jesus called her forgiven.
🔹 Hagar was called “a servant”—but God called her seen.
🔹 Tamar was cast into silence—God calls His daughters to restoration.
💬 Reflection: What does God say about you instead of what shame says?
✅ 3. Speak It Aloud – Shame Grows in Silence
🔹 Hagar cried out in the wilderness—and God heard her.
🔹 Hannah prayed in deep distress—and God answered.
🔹 Shame silences, but truth sets free.
💬 Practical Exercise:
1️⃣ Write down a lie shame has told you.
2️⃣ Find a truth from the scriptures that replaces that lie.
3️⃣ Speak it aloud:
✅ 4. Let God Redefine You
🔹 The woman caught in adultery was no longer a condemned woman—Jesus sent her forward with a new identity.
🔹 Hagar was no longer just a rejected servant—God made her the mother of a great nation.
🔹 God does not see you through the lens of your past, He sees you through the lens of His purpose.
📖 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
💬 Final Reflection Question:
For too long, shame has whispered lies about who you are, and for too long, we believed it and internalised it. We gave it a voice that was louder than our own. But from now on, let God’s truth speak louder than the lies.
Click each box to reveal the truth that replaces the lie. Let His words reshape how you see yourself today.

His promises over your life are eternal. Every time shame tries to speak, come back to these truths. Speak them aloud.
Let them renew your mind.
Let them become the loudest voice in your life.
You are seen. You are loved. You are chosen. And you are free.
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
